Working with Hoggard International from his office in Indonesia, Dr Pontoh received his Ph.D. degree in Food Science, from the University of Saskatchewan, located in Saskatoon, Canada. This followed his M.Sc. degree in Food Science from Bogor Agriculture University, in Bogor, Indonesia.

Since returning to Indonesia in 2001 Julius resumed his status as a lecturer of Biochemistry and Organic Chemistry, with the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences and a lecturer of Food Chemistry and Food Additives, with the Faculty of Agriculture. Both faculties are with Sam Ratulangi, located in Manado, where Julius was teaching before taking a sabbatical in 1990 to complete his PhD.

With over 12 published articles and papers in the area of food science, Dr. Pontoh adds a very strong research and food development aspect to Hoggard International's team of professionals. He also brings strong organizational and development skills having established the Minaesa Institute of Technology, in Kawangkoan, located in North Sulawesi of Indonesia.

With a strong and keen insight into the workings of the Indonesian market, Dr Pontoh has been a part of the Hoggard International team since 1994 helping companies assess and enter the Indonesian market.
